About J-Bar-S Ranch:

J-Bar-S Ranch began as a 57-acre purchase by owner Jim Lawson in 1966. Over time the 57 acres became 1,000 acres (some of the land has since been sold so it's now a little under 1,000 acres) and is a working Bison/Buffalo ranch Jim Lawson started his bison business in 1986. "We started with a cow, calf and a bull. Then we got up to 10 head, then we got to 20 then we eventually got to 100 and that was a little too much for the ranch." He only herds buffalo and has between 75 to 80 head on his ranch which keep him and his five other ranch hands busy.

Lawson's Lake, which is part of the J-Bar-S ranch, was originally nothing more than a low-lying depression in the natural topography of the land and a natural artesian spring. J-Bar-S ranch owner Jim Lawson determined that, with a little help by building a levee, the natural spring would fill the depression and become a lake. In just a short time, Lawson's Lake was born. Jim eventually built a two-bedroom home along the shore, landscaped the rest of the surrounding shore to create what would become a perfect wedding ceremony site, complete with a huge terrace for large groups of visitors. The lake is about 1/2 city block in size, crystal clear as a result of the pristine natural spring source and offers complete privacy, miles from "civilization", although all the amenities are at arm's reach. A true paradise. |
